In a significant step towards enhancing emergency medical services in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy officially inaugurated 146 new ambulances today at the Camp Office. The addition of these ambulances will bolster the existing 108 ambulance services across the state, ensuring prompt and efficient healthcare assistance for the people in need.

 

Prior to the flagging-off ceremony, Chief Minister Reddy personally inspected the medical equipment and facilities equipped in each of the ambulances, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing high-quality emergency healthcare. The state government has invested ₹34.79 crores. This includes the cost of equipment, to procure these 146 new ambulances. The acquisition was necessitated by the need to replace the older ambulances, which had covered over 2,50,000 kilometers and required frequent repairs.

The distribution of the new ambulances across different districts is as follows: Anakapalli (4), Anantapur (5), Annamayya (8), Bapatla (4), Chittoor (8), East Godavari (1), Eluru (4), Guntur (1), Kakinada (3), Konaseema (2), Krishna (3), Kurnool (7), Nandyala (13), Nellore (14), NTR (6), Palnadu (7), Parvathipuram Manyam (2), Sri Sathya Sai (7), Srikakulam (4), Tirupati (7), Visakhapatnam (2), Vizianagaram (11), West Godavari (2), and YSR (7).

Andhra Pradesh government is hell bent on prioritising providing premium healthcare services to people in the state. The government has been consistently working on concepts like Family Doctor to propell the benefits of govt services to the remotest areas. Providing further details, the health department revealed the financial breakdown of ambulance services from 2020 to 2023. As per the department, a capital expenditure of ₹135.05 crores has been allocated for the maintenance of the existing 108 ambulances, with an additional operating expenditure of ₹ 188.56 crores per annum. The emergency response system comprises a dedicated team of 3,745 field personnel and 311 individuals serving at the Emergency Response Center.

 

The introduction of these new ambulances is a testament to the Andhra Pradesh government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the well-being and safety of its citizens. With improved emergency healthcare infrastructure and enhanced services, the state is better equipped to handle medical emergencies and save lives.
